Academics

At Cleveland Sports Academy, our academic program is built on high expectations, engaging instruction, and real-world relevance. Core subjects are strengthened through our unique sports-based education model, where daily sports exploration reinforces focus, discipline, and critical thinking skills. Our school blends rigorous academics with athletic learning to motivate students and develop confident, well-rounded young men. Through this balanced approach, students grow as scholars, teammates, and future leaders.

Our school is powered by the AMP/edu ecosystem — a unified, modern learning platform that strengthens classroom instruction and enhances every student’s learning experience. AMP brings together curriculum, tools, and resources in one cohesive system, helping teachers deliver engaging, consistent instruction and giving students confidence with a well-supported, high-quality education.

Core Subjects & Electives

We teach a standards-based curriculum that prepares students for college and career readiness. Our curriculum is built on the Ohio Learning Standards (OLS) for English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and Physical Education. Students are instructed in five subject areas:

English Language Arts

ELA instruction supports reading fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension through interactive read-alouds, writing exercises, and guided practice. Students grow as readers and writers with the support of structured lessons and movement-friendly learning strategies.

Math

Students build number sense, reasoning skills, and problem-solving abilities through active, hands-on instruction. Lessons are designed to encourage perseverance and confidence while connecting math to real-world contexts.

Science

Science lessons engage students in inquiry, observation, and experimentation. Students learn to ask questions and explore the natural world through activities that promote critical thinking and discovery.

Social Studies

Students explore history, geography, and civics to understand their community and the broader world. Instruction encourages perspective-taking, cooperation, and connections to daily life.

Try C for Athletics

Half a day at Try C for Athletics is built into the school day.

ACCEL Instructional Model (AIM)

Our school is built on a strong foundation of high expectations for academic achievement for all students. We implement the ACCEL Instructional Model (AIM) which focuses on these key components to achieve strong academic results:

Individualized Instruction

Students participate in a variety of learning activities each day that individualize instruction for each subject area. Students receive whole class instruction, small group instruction, and individual instruction with teachers, technology and other curricular tools. 

Certified & Licensed Teachers

Our teachers meet the requirements set forth by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA): Bachelor’s degree, grade-level teaching license/certificate & ability to demonstrate subject area expertise. Our teachers are supported by trainers and participate in continuous, research-based professional development. Our teachers are accountable for student learning and rewarded for high quality performance.

More Time on Task

Our students receive double the instruction in ELA and Math to provide a strong foundation for all learning. Beginning with full-day Kindergarten, our school also follows a longer school day and school year than many other schools. 

Short Cycle Assessments

Student knowledge of academic standards is assessed formally and informally in short cycles by each teacher. Our teachers adjust class-level and individual instruction based on student performance data in these frequent intervals.
