Aaron Nixon, Principal

Aaron Nixon brings a wealth of experience in both education and athletics to his new role as Principal of Cleveland Sports Academy. With nearly 15 years dedicated to education, Mr. Nixon has a strong passion for mentoring and assisting youth, viewing his profession as an opportunity to educate on life through various fields and be a positive influence.

Mr. Nixon’s educational journey includes a Bachelor’s Degree in African American Studies from Long Beach State University and a Master’s in Education from Heidelberg University. His diverse career in education has included positions such as Director of Housing and Adjunct Professor, Assistant Director of Upward Bound at Lourdes University, and teacher in various grades at Education Alternatives. He has also served as a Behavioral In-School Specialist and Dean of Students.

A veteran basketball coach with 15 years of experience, Mr. Nixon has a deep understanding of the student-athlete experience. He has coached at the collegiate level, including stints as an assistant coach at Tri-C, Lakeland Community College, Bryant and Stratton, West Virginia State University, Lourdes University, and Heidelberg University. Before dedicating himself full-time to coaching and the mental health industry, Mr. Nixon played professional basketball overseas and in the G League from 2007 to 2010.

Mr. Nixon’s vision for the Cleveland Sports Academy is to “always strive for greatness” and foster a healthy, student-centered learning environment. He is particularly dedicated to helping young men understand what it means to become a student-athlete and build resilience, recognizing that the ups and downs of sports require strong mental fortitude. He believes in fostering a positive and supportive school culture by building a strong team environment from the principal down to the staff and students, emphasizing that “teamwork makes the dream work and we are all one team.”

Outside of his professional life, Mr. Nixon is deeply passionate about his work, considering it a calling rather than a job. His dedication to his profession and his desire to positively impact the lives of young people are central to his leadership approach.
